What is it?

Gentle exfoliation,
instant radiance

Dermaplaning is a cosmetic procedure where a trained professional uses a small, sterile blade to exfoliate the skin, removing dead cells and fine vellus hair, commonly known as “peach fuzz.” This treatment aims to improve skin texture, promote cell turnover, and create a smoother, brighter complexion.

This gentle, entirely non-invasive exfoliation smooths skin texture, enhances radiance, and improves the absorption of skincare products. At Milliner & Joseph, every treatment is performed by Tashia, a qualified aesthetics practitioner with Salon Gold insurance, and the technique and aftercare are tailored to your skin.

Ideal for those seeking a brighter complexion, smoother skin, and a refreshed appearance without downtime or discomfort — whether that’s dull or rough texture, fine facial hair, mild acne scarring or uneven tone, early signs of ageing, or sensitive skin that prefers a non-chemical exfoliation method.

Great for treating

Six reasons clients
keep coming back

Uneven Skin Texture

Dermaplaning effectively treats rough or uneven skin texture by removing dead skin cells, resulting in a smoother complexion.

Dull Skin

It is excellent for addressing dullness by exfoliating the skin's surface, revealing a brighter and more radiant complexion.

Fine Facial Hair

Dermaplaning is ideal for treating fine vellus hair (peach fuzz), leading to smoother skin and facilitating better makeup application.

Mild Signs of Aging

It can help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, promoting a more youthful and revitalized appearance.

Dry, Flaky Skin

By lifting away the buildup of dead surface cells, dermaplaning helps clear dry, flaky patches, leaving skin soft, comfortable, and better able to retain moisture.

Congested, Tired-Looking Skin

Removing the outermost layer of dead cells helps prevent the buildup that can congest the skin, supporting a fresher, healthier-looking complexion between treatments.

Reduction in Fine Lines

Regular dermaplaning sessions can help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, promoting a more youthful complexion over time.

Common Questions

Everything you
need to know

We want you to feel confident and informed before your appointment. Here are the questions we hear most often.

Still have questions? Call Tashia directly or send a message — we’re always happy to chat through your concerns.

Not at all — dermaplaning is a painless, non-invasive treatment. Most clients describe it as a gentle scraping sensation, similar to shaving. There are no needles, chemicals, or downtime, and many clients find it relaxing.

No — this is the most common myth about dermaplaning. The fine vellus hair removed during treatment grows back exactly as it was, with the same texture and colour. The blade cannot change the structure of the hair follicle.

Every 4–6 weeks is ideal, as this matches the skin’s natural renewal cycle. A course of 3–6 sessions delivers the best cumulative results — Tashia will recommend the right schedule for your skin at consultation.

Dermaplaning suits almost everyone — especially those with dull or rough texture, fine facial hair they’d like removed, mild acne scarring or uneven tone, early signs of ageing, or sensitive skin that prefers non-chemical exfoliation. It is not recommended over active acne breakouts, cold sores, or irritated skin — Tashia will screen for any contraindications at consultation.

We advise waiting at least 24 hours before applying makeup, to allow the skin to heal properly. When you do, opt for mineral or non-comedogenic makeup products to minimize the risk of clogging pores.

Instructions

Before & Aftercare
Guidelines

Following these instructions carefully will ensure
the best possible results and a smooth, safe recovery from your dermaplaning treatment.

Preparation

Before Your Treatment

Consultation

Schedule a consultation with a qualified skincare professional to discuss your skin concerns, medical history, and suitability for dermaplaning.

Sun Protection

Avoid excessive sun exposure and use sunscreen daily to minimize the risk of sun damage and skin irritation before the procedure.

Skincare Routine

Follow your skincare professional's recommendations for any pre-treatment skincare products or regimen adjustments to prepare your skin adequately.

Hair Removal

Refrain from waxing, threading, or using depilatory creams on the treatment area for at least one week before dermaplaning to prevent skin sensitivity or irritation.

Communicate

Inform your skincare professional about any recent facial treatments, medications, or skin conditions to ensure a safe and effective dermaplaning experience.

Recovery & Results

After Your Treatment

Sun Protection

Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily to protect the newly exfoliated skin from sun damage and prevent hyperpigmentation.

Gentle Cleansing

Use a mild cleanser and lukewarm water to cleanse the skin for the first few days after dermaplaning, avoiding harsh or abrasive products that may cause irritation.

Moisturize

Apply a gentle, hydrating moisturizer to soothe and hydrate the skin, helping it recover from the exfoliation process and maintain its moisture balance.

Avoid Exfoliation

Refrain from using exfoliating scrubs, acids, or harsh skincare treatments for at least one week after dermaplaning to prevent over-exfoliation and irritation.

Makeup

Wait at least 24 hours before applying makeup to allow the skin to heal properly, and opt for mineral or non-comedogenic makeup products to minimize the risk of clogging pores.

Follow-Up Care

Attend any follow-up appointments recommended by your skincare professional and adhere to their instructions for optimal results and long-term skin health.

If you experience prolonged redness, unusual irritation, breakouts, or any signs of infection — please contact us immediately on 07803 285619 so Tashia can advise.
